The "N"(ICU) Word
The NICU haunts me in my nightmares. Well, I am convinced that I may never have an enjoyable birthing experience. After enduring 3 long months in the NICU with Riley, I was sure that this time would be different. We were so close to it... Let me bring you up to speed. I was 37 weeks pregnant with moderate to severe pregnancy-induced hypertension. I was in the doctor every day last week get blood pressure checks and urine checks. I felt so horrible every day. So when the on-call doctor offered to give me my c-section that day, (which you should NEVER do to a miserable pregnant woman...) with the assurance that she would have a LESS THAN 1% chance of spending time in the NICU, I fought back and forth with it and ultimately ended up taking the offer. So I'm here to announce the birth of Parker Florence Wilson. Born 7/17/08, 7 lbs., 19.5 inches. "Full-term". I saw her come out in the O.R. and cried because she was crying immediately and she was big and chubby and pink. Later learned that she was 7 pounds, breathing room air, APGARS of 8 and 9, and in the well-baby nursery. Later learned in the recovery room that she had been taken to the NICU to be checked out. Thought it was a joke...Anyway, the rest is history. Couldn't have picked a better weekend to have a baby in the NICU. They typically do not have neonatoligists see the babies, just the pediatricians. Well, my pediatrician has been out of town all week, and so his son, who is a neonatologist from Salt Lake City and whom I worked with at Primary Childrens Medical Center, has been here all week. He has been so wonderful and we're so blessed that Parker is receiving such wonderful care from him. He has also saved my sanity by explaining that Parker is full-term and her lungs are properly developed and I didn't jeopardize her health by opting for the early c-section. She is just fighting an infection in her lungs (most likely pneumonia) and its taking her a little longer than we thought it would. We are blessed to have her here, yet, even after a miserable last month of pregnancy, I already miss being pregnant and being so close to her. Cant wait to bring her home!!!

So we had the pleasure of having Dylan's parents visit us from Oklahoma for a few days a couple weeks ago. Riley was so excited...she doesn't get to see them as often as we'd like. They, as usual, spoiled and showered her with presents. We had a bunch of fun things planned, but the 40 degree weather with 50 mph winds for 3 days straight didn't permit us to do much except sit and visit and drive around our small town. It was fun and good to see them though. We are planning a trip after the 4th of July for Riley to go to Oklahoma with her dad and spend a week at her grandparents house. That will be so fun for her and she'll have a lot more fun things to do with them there!!!
So Riley finally got to ride a horse!! She has been talking about wanting to ride one for months. Well, her little preschool/daycare had one brought to the school for "cowboy week". First, I was told that it was a little tiny pony, so that's what I geared her up for...WRONG...full-grown, adult male horse. Second, I thought it would be something that she would just talk about, but then when it came time to actually do it, she wouldn't do it...wrong again. She just ran up to the horse and the teacher just threw her on there. She didn't want anybody touching her or holding her legs or anything. It was very exciting for her...made her mama proud to see her do that all by herself after watching more than half the "big kids" either cry or only ride on him with an adult.

Save the Date!!
So I went to the doctor last week for my check-up and to schedule my C-section. I'm already in a bad mood, because the nurse draws out the weighing in thing as long as she can everytime!! I step on the scale and she moves the lever up a fraction of a centimeter at a time, so I feel like I've been on the thing for 10 min now and gained 50 lbs in the last 3 weeks. We got people waiting in line to use the scale...I just want to say 'Ya know, lets just move it up 5 or 6 pounds and see where we're at' ! THEN...to make matters worse, when she finally gets to the approximate weight where the bar is teetering up and down between too light and too heavy, we have to sit there and stare at it and adjust until precisely balanced...'oh, too light (adjust)...oh, too heavy (adjust). The whole weighing in procedure takes longer than the actual doctor visit itself!! Anyway, lets get back on track with the point of the story. So after that painstakingly long weigh in and a 30 second "measure the belly/listen to the heartbeat/do you have any questions" doctor visit, I'm walking to the desk to check out still feeling excited because I'll get to schedule my c-section date EARLY!! Well, that hope was extinguished when the nurse looked at the calendar and said 'this is the week we would have you in, but he's [my doctor] going to be out of town all that week'. OF COURSE!!! Why wouldn't he be?? So the date is set...albeit, a week later than planned...for July 31st a.k.a. Dylan and I's 6 year anniversary! I can't think of a better way to celebrate than to have your stomach cut open...how special!! I'm hoping that by some miracle, I can get things rolling the week before as we had planned. If not, then July 31st it is!! Is it here yet.......

The "post mother's day" Post
So I thought that things would slow down for me after softball was over, but they really haven't. And to top it off, my internet at home has been acting screwy, so to get on the internet (and blog...), I have to go to my office. That's where I do most of my blogging anyway...while I'm "working". No...I get my work done...it's just easy to get sidetracked with blogging, downloading music, writing emails, that sort of thing.
Anyway, so I've taken a bunch of cute pictures, and the easiest way to combine all of them was just to do a slide show. So I'll run ya through the slide show. Riley and I spent a nice mother's day at my mother's house (Dylan had to work all day) where I got to spend it with some of the best mother's I know.
Then I was lucky enough to take a few days and fly to Dallas with Riley, my mom, and my mom's mom to visit my little sis Holly, who is expecting a little boy on the exact same day as me. I commend her husband for putting up with a house full of women (2 of which are pregnant and hormonal and cranky) for 5 days in the Texas heat!! Thanks Kimball!! Anyway, we had a great time...ate way too much good food, went shopping, went swimming every day, made some cute mobiles for the babies, attempted to make some slings (front carriers) for the babies (turns out the pattern was made for skeletons without shoulders...or stomachs for that matter... or for little girls to use with their dolls)...wish I would've gotten some more pictures of the sling-making night. If you go to Holly's blog link, she got a good pic that pretty much summed up the night...me sitting at the sewing machine with an imaginary gun to my head next to my mother who has been trying to figure out how to attach the cell phone pocket to the sling for 3 hours now!!! Aaahh...good times...I'm having flashbacks to the kitchen curtains!! We had a great time though.
I know it's way late, but I want to shout out to all the great mother's in my life to whom I look up to and learn from. My own mother, my mother in law, my sisters, my grandmothers, my aunts, my cousins, my friends. I love all of you and I think you are all terrific mothers!!!
